Youth awareness rappels from the sky

Mikayla Lerch, an 18-year-old Pueblo West High School student, spoke on behalf of the Pueblo County Youth Advisory Council.

“Youth Awareness week is very crucial and I think it’s very important to publicize is as well. Let the youth know that there are resources for them,” Lerch said.

Lerch said that it is a pivotal time for youth in molding its outlook in life and molding how the youth will carry itself in the future.

The youth of Pueblo have a voice and they say they would like to improve Pueblo’s image.

“We’ve got a great new council that we have assembled,” said Jesse Sena, a member of the board of directors for the County Youth Advisory Council.

Pueblo youths earn grant to address bullying, mental health

While the Pueblo County Youth Advisory Council is comprised of both adults and students, it was a core group of 10 young men and women who successfully wrote an application for a Dare to Dream America grant.

It's the Dare to Dream program that provides financial backing for young people to become actively involved in mental health awareness activities.
